The DIFC Mandatory courses draw upon the expertise of the DIFC Academy of Law specialists on DIFC Laws. This 2-hour lecture covers DIFC Arbitration Law. It will benefit DIFC registered practitioners, other lawyers and in-house counsels who would like an overview of the DIFC Arbitration Law. 2 DIFC Mandatory/ Accredited CLPD points will be awarded upon completion of this course.

Speaker 1:

ALEXANDRA LESTER

Alex assists clients to resolve complex commercial disputes arising across a range of sectors with a particular specialism in technology, media, and telecommunications disputes, as well as property, hotels, leisure, and healthcare. Alex's experience includes representing clients at every stage of dispute resolution proceedings including in the DIFC Courts, local UAE Courts, English Courts, arbitration (under the DIFC-LCIA, ADCCAC, ICC and LCIA rules), negotiation and mediation. Alex also regularly advises on commercial and contractual issues arising in day-to-day business operations, such as managing project delay, late payment, agency disputes, and contract terminations.

Alex is a Solicitor of England and Wales and a registered practitioner before the DIFC Courts. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Alex worked at IBM UK Limited for 5 years as a Commercial Manager, and so has first-hand experience of commercial disputes from a client perspective. She has also undertaken secondments to the legal departments of retail and banking clients.

Speaker 2:

JESS MCGUIRK

Associate | Clyde & Co

Jess handles a wide range of commercial disputes, including in the DIFC Courts, local UAE Courts and  arbitration  (including under the DIFC-LCIA,  ICC,  SCC and UNCITRAL rules).  

Jess has a particular focus on trade credit insurance disputes and international arbitrations in the defence, security and logistics sectors.

Jess is admitted to practice before the High Court of Australia, the Supreme Court of New South Wales and is a registered practitioner before the DIFC Courts.

Prior to joining Clyde & Co, Jess was a member of the Australian diplomatic service. He has also worked as a lawyer in Sydney with Australia’s leading transport law practice and in Dubai and in-house counsel for a global logistics company.
